Day 3 - A day at the Sydney Opera House

On day 3 we walked from our hotel down to the Sydney harbor for a tour, dinner, and a ballet performance at the iconic Sydney Opera House!

Angela posing on the steps of the SOH.

View between two of the SOH shells.  Weather was just phenomenal!

Shells are actually composed of thousands of small geometric tiles.

Another view, sun shining off one of the SOH shells. Downtown Sydney from the interior of the SOH.  Wow!

Another interior view.  Much of the inside is wood/wood paneling. Entrance to the Joan Sutherland Theatre

Painting of Dame Sutherland mounted in the foyer. Interior of the Joan Sutherland Theatre.  We lucked out, after the weekend performances the theatre was going to be closed down for six months for renovation to deal with perceived acoustics issues.

After the tour we went to the SOH Bennelong Restaurant for dinner.  Beautiful setting, beautiful views, food was good but a bit overpriced.   Beautiful Angela posing at our table.

After dinner it was back to the Sutherland Theatre for a performance by the incredible Australian Ballet. First piece was called "Faster", sports themed work inspired by the Olympic motto "Faster, Higher, Stronger."

Ballet dancers "fencing" across the stage in "Faster". "Higher" indeed!  Another photo from "Faster".

Final work on the venue was called "Squander and Glory."  Note the use of full-stage mirrors behind the dancers.  At one point in the ballet they turned on the house lights so we could see ourselves in the mirrors, essentially the view the dancers have of the audience.  Cool!
