Day 08 - Sicily and the Godfather...

Anchored in the Bay of Naxos in Sicily this morning.  Tendered to the pier, then boarded our bus for the “Godfather” tour.  Climbing up the coastal roads with their numerous hairpin turns with minimal railings in a big tour bus was quite exciting...  First stop was the village of Savoca where we saw a bar that was used to shoot some GF scenes.  We also stopped by the Cappuccino Church to check out a bunch of mummified friars, oh boy!   Leaving Savoca we encountered even more hairpin turns, nothing like looking straight down a cliff wall to get your blood flowing!   Final stop was in the village of Forza d’Agro where more GF scenes were shot.   Then it was back on the bus for a reprise of the hairpin turns all the way back to Naxos, just in case we missed them the first time!   We have a late dinner tonight in one of the ships specialty restaurants.   Tomorrow is our one and only cruise day at sea as we cross the Ionian sea on our way to Greece...

Weather continued to cooperate...

View of the resort town of Taormina, en route to the village of Savoca.

Bar Vitelli in Savoca, some scenes from the GF movie(s) were

filmed here... Sorry, no photos of the mummies allowed.

On the way to Forza d’Agro, you can just make out one of the many

hairpin turns we encountered climbing up to the village.

The two of us in the main plaza in Forza d’Agro with a silhouette/cut out

View down the street from the main plaza.

Two miles across the water is mainland Italy...

Church of Santa Agostino (?), site of the famous wedding scenes in one of the

GF movies. We’ll have to rewatch the trilogy when we get back home!

Hang gliders! Is it just me or, given the terrain, is this just a wee bit crazy??
