Cuba, Cuba, Cuba!
Our second "big" 2016 trip was to Havana, Cuba to attend the bi-ennial 2016 International Ballet Festival (IBF). We traveled with a group of 40+ people affiliated with the Kansas City Ballet (to include the company's Artistic Director, which was neat). The entire trip was arranged by a local Cuban travel agency, basically we had tours all day and performances every night. See links below for a day-by-day review.
- Day 1, 28 Oct - a drive through Havana, checking in to our hotel, welcome dinner, and a Cuban nightclub experience!
- Day 2, 29 Oct - a driving tour of Havana, more food, and our first IBF performance
- Day 3, 30 Oct - down to the tobacco farm, cliff murals, a boat ride on an underground river, another cool IBF evening
- Day 4, 31 Oct - touring a local Cuban art gallery, the University of Art, the crazy Casa Fuster mosaic installation, and then another IBF performance
- Day 5, 1 Nov - a walking tour of old Havana, a visit to the Cuban National Ballet School, another great lunch, and then... more IBF performances!
- Day 6, 2 Nov - "Hemingway in Cuba" day, more lunch, more art, and more IBF ballet performances
- Day 7, 3 Nov - touring a Cuban cigar factory, the national baseball stadium, an early dinner, and one final IBF performance. Whew!
