Day 2 - Avignon and the Palace of the Popes

While we were at dinner yesterday, our cruise ship (the Viking Delling) departed Arles enroute back to Avignon.  The next morning, after the much required breakfast, we disembarked the ship for a walking tour of Avignon and a tour of the Palace of the Popes.  Weather continued to be in our favor, partly sunny in the low 80s!  Ship departs Avignon later this evening, enroute to our next stop - Viviers...

Another early morning view from our cabin balcony, it never gets old! Local tourist sign posted along our walking route in Avignon...  Saint Agricole (whose father was apparently also a saint?) who donated his house to become a church.  Church was later renovated and converted to a collective.  Still later more renovations and add-ons.  Thank you Google Translate...

Building with painted house facades/murals at the Place Daniel Sorano on the way to the Palace of the Popes... A close up of some of the murals...

Our tour guide (with the ubiquitous tour group "lollipop" sign) and some of our tour mates in front of the walls surrounding the Palace of the Popes

Angela, with her ever present sunglasses and her Viking voicebox attached to the (color-coordinated) lanyard.  When we first started doing cruises, they did not have the voice boxes and it was often hard to hear our tour guides, especially in larger tour groups.

View of the Avignon Cathedral, just next to the Palace of the Popes...

Fun shot of a shopping alley on our way back to our ship!
