Day 06 - Rome - the usual Vatican, Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's stuff...!

Docked in Civitavecchia this morning, the port servicing Rome. Toured Rome all day to include the St. John in Lateran Basilica, the Vatican Museum, the Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica. Cruising tonight to be in Amalfi tomorrow morning... Weather continues to cooperate and amaze.

St. John in Lateran Basilica, oldest church in Rome,

consecrated in the year 324

Inside the basilica...

Driving by the Colosseum... ...and the Piazza Venezia en route to the Vatican.

A little lunch before the Vatican tours, have to keep up our strength...  First view of St. Peter’s dome...

Inside the map room in the Vatican Museum.

Went from here to the Sistine Chapel where no photos were allowed.

One of the many wall maps in the map room.  This one depicts the Italian penisula,

the Adriatic Sea, and the Dalmation Coast.

Inside view of St. Peter's dome,

designed and partially constructed by Michelangelo.

The Pieta, sculpted by Michelangelo at the age of 23...

Swiss guard, two hour shifts... End of the day in St. Peter’s Square...
