Day 4 - Last Day in Jerusalem, Dead Sea Scrolls

Our last full day in Jerusalem. In the morning we went to the Hadassah Medical Center to see the stunning stained glass windows created by artist Marc Chagall that adorn the Abbell Synagogue. Only word I could come up with was “wow”. Another wow was immediately thereafter when saw the Dead Sea scrolls exhibited at the Israel Museum.

Windows were displayed along the walls of the Synagogue...

... and depicted the "Twelve Tribes of Israel".

They were installed in February 1962.

Beautiful colors and designs...

A few more examples...

... to get the idea!

And then there was the next stop, the Israel Museum.

Outside the museum they had a model of what Jerusalem might have looked like in 66 B.C., just before the Great Revolt against the Romans which resulted in the destruction of the city...

Useful map pointing out where things use to be...

They also had a number of stone pieces from the same time period on display around the model.  Here the capital from a column perhaps...

... and here maybe a frieze from a lintel.

Final tour stop at the Israel Museum was the "Shrine of the Book" which houses the Dead Sea scrolls collection.  No photos allowed inside!
